Fern Pattern Technique

The injection technique determines the result

When fillers are injected to improve appearance, it is obviously important to choose the best and safest agents. What is essential is that the fillers are also applied in the most beautiful way. The method of injection largely determines the cosmetic result. Tom van Eijk is the inventor of the Fern Pattern Technique, and has successfully used this technique for more than 15 years and taught it to thousands of colleagues(Tom van Eijk Academy).

Using fillers without filling

In this Fern Pattern Technique, hyaluronic acid is introduced into the dermis, making it possible to firm the skin without giving an unnatural padding. In fact, in many cases, lines and wrinkles are not caused by a lack of volume, but rather by a lack of firmness. It then makes sense to improve skin firmness alone. The most effective pattern to reduce lines is in the shape of a fern-leaf, hence the name; “Fern Pattern Technique”.

Applied everywhere

Since its publication on Fern Pattern Technique in the scientific journal “Journal of Drugs in Dermatology,” the technique has become popular around the world and has changed the way doctors inject fillers.

When is it effective?

If the skin lacks firmness, for example due to sun damage or (old) acne scars, or just purely due to the ravages of time, the Fern Pattern Technique can help restore this firmness to a better and more regular appearance. Often a combination of firmness and volume is the best treatment for a face. This can be achieved by injecting the same filler at different depths.

Collagen production

It has been scientifically proven that when Restylane (hyaluronic acid) is injected into the skin, the cells of the skin produce more collagen on their own for several months. In this way, the firmness of the Fern Pattern Technique is taken over by your own collagen. This often makes the correction effective for years to come.

Treatment regime

To maximize this collagen-stimulating effect, a treatment regimen is often recommended. Instead of a single treatment with many fillers, we schedule a treatment with a small amount every two or three months. Firmness is then built up in steps with a very natural transition to the desired level of correction. After that, an annual touch up is sufficient.
