A tight jawline
With young faces comes a tight jawline. As we age, this changes. The skin becomes more irregular in firmness and broader, giving the jawline a more “cluttered” appearance. One of the aspects of “hanging” cheeks is optically enhanced by the creases below the corners of the mouth (“Zorro Sign”) and in the middle of the cheek, under the jaw to the other side (“Party Hat Line”).
Fillers enhance the contours of the jawline
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers (such as Restylane) thicken and firm the skin of the jawline where thickness and firmness has diminished over the years. The jawline becomes tighter and “calmer” in aspect. It also treats folds and wrinkles that may interrupt the tight jawline (Zorro Sign and Party Hat Line). With the fading of the folds and support to the area below the corners of the mouth, the drooping aspect of the cheeks decreases. If desired, this treatment can be directly combined with restoring volume under the skin such as at the cheeks, corner of the jaw and corners of the mouth. (see also ; “Liquid Facelift“). Botox reduces muscle tension around the mouth
Sometimes there is a tendency around the mouth to pull with the muscles causing the corners of the mouth to make a downward movement and give an “unsatisfied” appearance. Botox can restore the balance between the muscles that lift the corners of the mouth and those that lower them, resulting in a calmer aspect.
Surgery or injections?
Most patients want a tighter jawline without undergoing surgery. Often this is only partially possible. Especially when the jawline changes have skin enlargement as an underlying cause. During the consultation, discuss with the cosmetic doctor what your wishes are and what to expect from the treatment. If surgery (face-lift, mini-lift, S-lift), possibly combined with fillers, is a better option it will be honestly advised and explained.
