Forehead lines

Most often, forehead lines are treated with Botox.

Cause

Every time the forehead muscles tighten, horizontal folds appear above the eyebrows. When the muscles relax, the lines initially disappear again. If the muscles are very strong or are tightened very often, or if the condition of the skin deteriorates, the lines in the skin may remain visible. The underlying cause in frequent lifting of the eyebrows is not infrequently excess skin of the upper eyelids. The habit then arises to relieve the pressure of that skin on the eyes by tightening the forehead.

Consequence

The result is a series of permanent horizontal lines on the forehead.

Research

The doctor will discuss your needs with you and assess what causes your forehead wrinkles. It is essential that any excess skin on the upper eyelids also be considered. This helps determine treatment options.

Treatment

Usually, strong forehead muscle action is a major cause of lines and Botox will be used to temporarily make the muscle less powerful. If the condition of the skin is also a factor, it may be useful to combine this with skin-firming injections with a filler. Weakening the action of the forehead muscle means that the eyebrows will rise less high. To offset that effect, this treatment will usually be combined with a brow elevator.
