Sculptra is a drug used to restore or improve skin firmness. As we age, skin firmness and padding changes, becoming less elastic and full. Sculptra consists of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is injected under the skin in a suspension with water. In the months that follow, this will stimulate the skin to produce more collagen. The result is a gradual, gentle and long-lasting improvement in the contours of the cheeks and jawline. So Sculptra works differently than hyaluronic acid fillers, which give immediate results and are more suitable for restoring an irregular reduction in skin firmness, as seen with wrinkles and folds.
Because the improvement process is slow, repeat treatments are preferably scheduled only after 3 months so that the result of the previous treatment can be properly assessed. When the effect is sufficient, results are visible for up to two to three years.
Sculptra is often combined with hyaluronic acid fillers, with the Sculptra used to improve the overall firmness of the skin and the fillers used to specifically correct those vulnerable areas or lines.
